The Larry Scott era is infamously over and the Pac-12 has found their new guy.
And he has an immense background in the sports betting world.
George Kliavkoff, the president of entertainment and sports at MGM International, has been hired as the next commissioner of the Pac-12 conference.
It’s significant news for any fan of schools in the Pac-12 but it could be even more significant news for everybody in the sports betting industry. There’s been lots of questions about how college sports will embrace the mass legalization of sports betting in the United States. Mostly because it is an amateur sport, the athletes are not paid and they could likely make money by working with the gambling scene.
Kliavkoff talked in his opening statement about player empowerment topics such as name, image and likeness and growing the audience for the revenue sports: men’s basketball and football.
On the Denver Sports Betting Show, Chase Howell and Aniello Piro discussed the hire, the implications in the sports betting world and what this could mean for the Pac-12 going forward.
