After the Zurich Classic, the PGA Tour heads to Copperhead Course in Palm Harbor, Florida for the Valspar Championship.
Three weeks before the PGA Championship you typically don’t have a strong field but this week we do at least get a few big names on the course in Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson and Patrick Reed.
Copperhead Course typically plays as one of the harder courses on the Tour schedule annually as the winning score generally hovers around -8 to -11 at the end of the weekend. Paul Casey is the two-time defending champion with scores of -8 and -10. Last year the tournament was not played due to COVID. So, Casey will be seeking a 3-peat this weekend.
Two of the major stats to be taking a look at this week is driving accuracy and greens in regulation.
Here are some bets to consider for the Valspar Championship:
Emiliano Grillo 50-1 to win, 4-1 Top 10, 2-1 Top 20:
Ranking 51st in driving accuracy and 2nd in greens in regulation on tour, Grillo is a great target this week. Not to mention his current form is where you want it to be. He’s coming off of a 6th place finish at the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship followed up most recently by a 2nd place finish at the RBC Heritage. Grillo checks the boxes I’m looking at this week.
Russell Henley +140 Top 20:
Ranked 24th in driving accuracy and 7th in Greens in Regulation, Henley is another guy that checks the boxes and also comes in with good recent form with a 3rd place finish at The Honda Classic followed up by a 9th place finish at the RBC Heritage.
Corey Conners 4-1 Top 5, 2-1 Top 10:
There’s just some guys that are horses for courses and Conners fits the bill at Copperhead. Ranked 10th in driving accuracy and 6th in Greens in Regulation, Conners is a must to invest in this week. Not to mention he’s been a Top 10 machine with seven Top 10s on Tour this season. Keep backing Conners, especially with this kind of course setup.
