With the golf world still digesting the terrible news regarding Tiger Woods, there is still a WGC event this week that will be held at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla.
Dustin Johnson is the favorite to win this week and is always a good bet, despite his recent performance on Sunday. In WGC events, you typically want to target the world’s best when making your wagers, as the fields are very strong.
The Concession Golf Club is making its debut on The PGA Tour and all indications are that it is going to be an extremely challenging golf course. Bryson DeChambeau won an NCAA Championship on this course in 2015, so he’ll be somebody to have your eye on this week.
The course is a Par 72 layout that is just under 7,500 yards in distance. The Par 5s play as four of the five hardest holes on the golf course so targeting golfers that have strong scoring averages on Par 5s is a good move.
A couple notables that play Par 5s well are Xander Schauffele, Bryson DeChambeau and Patrick Reed.
Another important factor on this course will be ball striking. Ball strikers to look at include Collin Morikawa, Viktor Hovland, Joaquin Niemann, Jon Rahm and Johnson among others.
Concession also has Bermuda grass which tends to play tough around the greens for the players that aren’t used to it. It’s smart to target guys that are from the East Coast or play a lot of golf in places like Florida in this event. A lot of guys will be switching out their wedges this week to lower the bounce to make it easier to play off the tight lies that Bermuda brings you.
So with no course history and just the layout of the course in mind, here are some guys to target:
Brooks Koepka +2500 to win, +250 to finish Top 10: Koepka is always at his best in these kinds of tournaments, where the field is strongest and the course is challenging. He’s in good form as well not far off his recent win at The Waste Management Phoenix Open.
Patrick Reed +120 vs. Rory McIlroy: Not sure what Rory you’re going to get this week but this course sets up really well for a guy like Patrick Reed. Good value on this line.
Patrick Reed +110 to finish Top 20: Again, this is a good week to target Patrick Reed. I’m looking at him in matchups and the outright markets.
Brendon Todd +138 to finish Top 30: Todd’s consistency and hitting fairways regularly will pay off on this course that presents such challenging Par 5s.
