Nathan MacKinnon and the Colorado Avalanche are in action Saturday
Posted by Ryan Knuppel on February 14, 2020

The National Hockey League will once again move their sport outdoors for the 2020 Stadium Series game featuring the Los Angeles Kings at Colorado Avalanche. Falcon Stadium, on the campus of Air Force Academy in Colorado will be the host for this highly-anticipated event. There is always a chance that weather and the outdoor environment can affect the play on the ice, but the two teams will affect the game the most.

The Colorado Avalanche come into this game with 72 points to sit in second place in the Central Division. The Avs had won five straight games before suffering a loss to the Washington Capitals just a few days ago. Los Angeles is one of the worst teams in the National Hockey League this season, coming into this game with just 55 points. The Kings were winners in their previous game, but had lost five straight before that game.

Avalanche Can Really Score

The Colorado Avalanche are one of the highest-scoring teams in the NHL this season, scoring over 3.6 goals per game. Colorado does allow close to 2.8 goals per game, but they usually like to play a wide open style of hockey. The Avs have struggled a bit on the power play of late, and they are converting less than 20 percent of their chances this season. Colorado will need their defense to show up, but they want to win this game with their high-powered offense.

Center Nathan MacKinnon has always been viewed as a rising star in the NHL, but this season has been his coming-out party. MacKinnon leads the team with 32 goals, 48 assists, and 80 points so far this season. The Avalanche have surrounded their star with plenty of weapons and speed, but he usually gets things rolling for this team.

Kings Needing More Offense

The Los Angeles Kings have struggled to find some offense this season, and their defense hasn’t been any better. Los Angeles is averaging just 2.45 goals per game this season, and that just won’t get it done against the Colorado Avalanche. The Kings are also allowing 3.17 goals per game, and their special teams have been a disaster.

Center Anze Kopitar is having a solid season for the Los Angeles Kings, but he needs some help. Kopitar leads the team with 17 goals, 32 assists, and 49 points, but those numbers pale in comparison to those of MacKinnon. The Kings are going to be forced to play fast in this game, and they will need to put some pucks in the net.

Avalanche Put on Show in Stadium Series

The Colorado Avalanche have been the much better team this season, and that is going to show up in this game. The Los Angeles Kings don’t have much offense, and they have been known to give up plenty of goals. Colorado can score goals in a hurry, and their offense is going to be on full display in this one. Bet the Colorado Avalanche over the Los Angeles Kings in the 2020 Stadium Series game.

Nathan MacKinnon 0.5 Assists

Nathan MacKinnon is a goal scorer, but he certainly is an elite assist man as well. This is not a very good Los Angeles Kings defense, so to tempt us with just 1 assist as a winner, is our winner. We are taking the OVER 0.5 assists in this game for the Avalanche stud.

Phillip Grubauer 28.5 Saves

The goaltender for the Avalanche is expected to be Phillip Grubauer, and he is 18-12-4 on the season. Los Angeles is not known for its elite shot shooting, but under 30 saves seems too low. Look for Grubauer to be a wall, and save MORE than 28.5, albeit by a narrow margin.
