Will the Denver Nuggets Beat the San Antonio Spurs?
This is the first time the Nuggets have made the playoffs in 6 years! Mike Malone has done an excellent job of building an explosive young core around Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic. You could make a strong argument that the Denver Nuggets have the best depth of any team in the playoffs.
However, this is a classic matchup of youth vs experience and the Denver Nuggets are an unknown commodity. It’s hard to bet against Greg Poppovich but the Nuggets are clearly the more athletic team.
Can the Denver Nuggets Adjust to Playoff Basketball?
The NBA playoffs are different in that it’s more physical and the refs take on a “let them play” approach with foul calls. This is probably why some regular season NBA teams that rack up tons of wins flame out in the playoffs. The best example of this is the Atlanta Hawks a few years ago. They used to crush teams during the regular season only to get upset in the first few rounds of the playoffs. The Nuggets have Paul Millsap who was actually a big part of those Atlanta Hawk teams that kept getting bounced. I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing but we will see what happens.
Who will shine for the Denver Nuggets?
While Nikola Jokic did garner some interest as NBA MVP, he never had a realistic shot at winning it. Jokic is a very unique player who looks so smooth that when you check his stats at the end of games you scratch your head and think “How the hell did he get a triple-double?”
While Murray also has the step up, Jokic is the engine that makes this car go!
